SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Established in 1977, Sharjah International Airport is conveniently located just 10 kilometers from the city center, and a few kilometers away from the neighboring emirates. Recently completed a major expansion and redevelopment, the airport has grown to keep pace with the increasing number of passengers, growing cargo business and an increasing number of international carriers as well as regional airlines. In 2013 the airport handled nearly 8.5 million passengers with over 66,024 flights to 280 destinations worldwide, and the movement of 586,677 tons of cargo. With state-of-the art Duty Free, Sharjah Airport provides all services the discerning traveller will wish for. In 2003, it became the official hub of Air Arabia, the Middle East’s first low-cost carrier, which helped fuel the airport’s traffic as it ventured into new and untapped territories within a five -hour flying radius.
