BEACHES & PARKS

PARKS

The Municipality maintains Sharjah beautifully landscaped parks of which there are over 40 spread around the city.

Admission is usually free of charge with the exception of Al Muntaza and Sharjah Desert Park. Opening hours vary from park to park but the weekends are the busiest. Whether large or small, all the parks have green lawns; purpose built play and seating areas and a variety of sports pitches (usually basketball, volleyball and football). All parks have a list of do’s and don’ts at the entrance advising if football, barbecues or cycling is allowed. Many parks let you take in food and drink, so you can have a picnic in the peaceful, green setting. The smoking of Sheesha pipes is not permitted in public.

Opening hours may change during the Holy Month of Ramadan and during summer, with parks opening and closing later in the day.

The city beaches on the Arabian Gulf coast offer safe, white, sandy palm lined beaches with clear blue seas and gently shelving shores. The public beaches below offer free access, but have limited facilities. The most popular beaches for sunbathing are Al Khan Beach and Al Mamzar. The Corniche Beach is packed over the weekends and is not really suitable for sunbathers. The east coast has beautiful bays lined with sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Famous for its water sports, snorkeling, diving and relaxing, this coast creates the ideal break for a weekend, either camping on the beach or staying in the motels and hotels that line the coast.

The sun can be strong, so hats, sun cream and UV protection suits are a must at any time of the year. Dress restrictions do apply on the Sharjah beaches and ladies should be suitably attired.

Al Montazah Park

Spread over a wide expanse, Al Montazah is touted as Sharjah's first-ever family entertainment destination, with the first of its kind water park among a host of other amusement and recreational attractions. Envisioned to be the epitome of 'happiness' for families, the park lies on an island right in the heart of the emirate, stretching against the scenic backdrop of Sharjah's picturesque skyline. Despite fun being our first priority, Al Montazah boasts as well the best international safety standards from high aesthetic values and world-class infrastructure. Care for the environment and the varying needs for leisure in a relaxed ambience are the hallmarks of Sharjah's new destination for family recreation.

Sharjah National Park

This is Sharjah's biggest park covering 630,000 square metres and is located at Intersection No. 5, Sharjah/Al Dhaid Road. This park opens weekday afternoons from 2 - 6 pm and all day at the weekends, and 10 am – 7pm on public holidays.

Green Belt Park

Green Belt Park (for women only) lies in the northeast part of the city of Sharjah, close to Cultural Square. The park also features water fountains and an open theatre with four main gates.

Al Majaz Park

Al Majaz Park is one of the modern public gardens in the city and is close to the Khaled Lagoon. It has a central area for holding ceremonies and is a very popular place with plenty of child-friendly facilities.

Al Majaz Waterfront

Al Majaz Waterfront project brings together the history and culture of Sharjah to create a well-rounded family-leisure and entertainment experience.  Featuring special attractions including a new kids area, landscaped gardens, cafes, shops, kiosks and the 100-meter height and 200 meters wide Sharjah fountain - one of the region’s  largest water features, the Al Majaz Waterfront is the premier leisure area of the city.

Al Khan Beach

Al Khan Beach stretches from the old village in Al Khan to Al Layyeh power station and it is one of the safest beaches in the UAE.  This beach is very popular with the tourists, especially during weekends and holidays.

Al Corniche Beach

Palm trees surround the sandy beach, stretching out from Sharjah Ladies Club along the coast to Coral Beach Resort.

Khorfakkan Beaches

The private Oceanic Hotel beach is a great location to relax or enjoy water sports, for a fee. You can have a pleasant and delightful time swimming or barbecuing along the coast where many rocky outcrops are found. There are also charming sandy beaches and areas allocated for camping in Khorfakkan.

Khaled Lagoon & Al Buheirah Corniche

The Khaled Lagoon is a large expanse of water with a beautiful fountain in its centre. The lagoon is surrounded by green lawns and palm trees plus walking paths of the Al Buheirah Corniche.  This area is one of the most densely populated areas of Sharjah. Visitors enjoy walking around the lagoon, passing Al Jazeera Park and the Central Souk. A walking tour of the entire Khaled Lagoon takes about an hour and covers a distance of 6½ kilometers. There are a large number of restaurants and cafes in which to relax around the lagoon as well, particularly at the Al Majaz Waterfront - which includes the Sharjah fountain - one of the region’s  biggest water fountains, modern gardens, cafes, shops, kiosks,  and a specially designed kids area.

Sharjah Corniche

The Sharjah Corniche stretches from Al Buheirah Corniche to Ajman Beach, passing by the fish market. It is a destination for walkers covering a considerable distance and following the creek, and then the coast.
